- Celebrating 40 Years of Excellence in Natural Medicine
In 2024, the Australian Traditional-Medicine Society (ATMS) celebrates its 40th anniversary. Across four decades, ATMS has championed the cause of natural medicine, supporting practitioners across various modalities, and advocating for the profession’s collective interests throughout Australia.
Reflecting on the Last Decade
Over the past ten years, ATMS has achieved significant milestones and delivered substantial results across its strategic pillars:

- CPE Program Development: This comprehensive events program ensures practitioners receive high-quality education specific to their modality and business training, fostering excellence in practice.
- Business Skills and Development: ATMS has continually enhanced its resources to help members thrive, offering tools for business growth and client relationship management.
- ATMS Natural Medicine Awards: Celebrating outstanding practitioners, clinics, students, and lecturers, these awards highlight the success and achievements within the natural medicine community.
- Symposiums and Seminars: These annual special events offer vital health education on key topics and business strategies, keeping current and addressing the growing trends in the health sector.

- Student Engagement and Support Programs: ATMS has developed initiatives to engage students, supporting them during their studies and guiding them into practice with the Transition to Practice: from the Classroom to the Clinic seminar, free student membership and monthly newsletters.
- Promotion of Accredited Practitioners: Through tools like the ‘Find a Practitioner’ feature and external advertising campaigns, ATMS has enhanced the visibility and credibility of its members. The annual Natural Medicine Week, held each May, promotes practitioner engagement with consumers through events, blogs, education, and recipes.
- Membership Milestones: ATMS offers Accredited membership and Fellows membership to bring together a community of likeminded practitioners to learn, connect and share across relevant channels like the member Facebook group and fellow webinars

- Lobbying Efforts: Campaigns including ‘I Support Natural Medicine and I Vote’ and ‘How Dare They’ have been pivotal in advocating for natural therapies’ rebate status and broader recognition.
- Natural Medicine Week Events in Canberra: These events included wellness packs and expos for the Parliamentary Friends of Natural and Complementary Medicines, fostering industry relationships and partnerships.
- Engagement with Education Providers and Students: Building important connections within the industry, ATMS engages with Education Providers to ensures a comprehensive support system for practitioners from education to practice.
Looking Ahead: The Next Decade
As we look to the future, ATMS aims to continue building on these foundations, focusing on:
- Enhanced Member Support: Expanding resources and support systems.
- Growth and Engagement: Increasing student involvement and providing more robust support for new practitioners.
- Advocacy and Awareness: Strengthening lobbying efforts and continuing to build relationships within the industry and government.
- Innovation in Education: Developing new educational programs and resources to keep practitioners at the forefront of natural medicine advancements.
- Community Outreach: Expanding initiatives like Natural Medicine Week and Friends of Natural Medicine to further connect ATMS and practitioners with the public, driving more demand for natural therapies and highlighting their benefits.
