Q&A
I am Head of Education and Clinical Support at BioConcepts. I am privileged to work for this company which is so fundamentally in existence to support practitioners. We not only provide the highest quality supplements that actually work time and time again, but our founder, Henry Osiecki was very much committed to encouraging continual education amongst our profession. In my role, I am honoured to be able to continue his love for practitioner education for education’s sake. We also support practitioners with our well known clinical support phone support service. As clinicians ourselves, we are aware of how difficult it can be to operate in clinic, often alone. So we all enjoy supporting our practitioners however we can, even if it’s just a listening ear.
I fell into my current role but becoming a clinical nutritionist came from a desire to help. I started my career as a broadcast journalist but decided to try one nutrition subject when my second (of 4) child was just a baby, and I was hooked. The subject was food as medicine. I have since moved into paediatrics clinically so I maintain a practical element which helps inform the education that we plan for BioConcepts. Why I stay is simple…nutrition works, I see it make a difference to my patients on a weekly basis, and also for practitioners we are so grateful to serve at BioConcepts. The aim is to spread the love as widely as possible.
Our focus is on ensuring practitioners know we are committed to being practitioner only to support their businesses so that they can be there for their patients for the long haul.
We are here for the long haul – we are one of the last remaining family owned Australian businesses in this industry.
We are constantly looking at new ways to support practitioners and save them time through clinically relevant education, expertly designed patient material and clinic tools.
Another focus is on continuing to deliver the highest quality cutting edge products that work.
The biggest change for the workplace has been a move towards working remotely – that has allowed us to employ the very best staff from across Australia. There has been a widespread adoption of telehealth which means our modalities can reach more people than ever before.
Another major change is the emergence of artificial intelligence or AI, and the challenge of using it to our advantage.
We will have determined how best to use AI to support us as clinicians, and in business without being consumed by it. We will have a greater evidence base for our therapies, and access to more ingredients based on efficacy.
Education is the biggest gift we pass on to our patients. The understanding that people have control over their health trajectory is powerful.
I have two. First, I am so grateful to be the last person to be mentored by Henry Osiecki. Knowing how he stood up to the big food companies in his time and in doing so, stood up for us as food consumers is inspiring. He was way ahead of his time in every professional aspect.
Second is every single mother I see who is struggling with their child’s health, looking for solutions, living in often difficult situations. The ones who need help themselves but prioritise their children. They inspire me and motivate me to be a better practitioner.
